AXIS Q1972-E 640x480 Thermal Bullet Camera, 25 mm 8.3 fps, 03032-001
Description
AXIS Q1972-E 25 mm 8.3 fps 640x480 Thermal Bullet Camera
The AXIS Q1972-E 25 mm 8.3 fps (03032-001) is a compact outdoor thermal bullet camera that pairs a 640x480 uncooled microbolometer (NETD below 20 mK) with a 25 mm lens and a 24° horizontal field of view, streaming thermal video at up to 8.3 fps. It picks up people and vehicles by their heat in total darkness and low-contrast scenes, with electronic image stabilization, thermal palettes, Axis Zipstream, preinstalled AXIS Motion Guard, Fence Guard and Loitering Guard, and Axis Edge Vault cybersecurity on an ARTPEC-8 chip with a deep learning processing unit. The IP66/IP67, IK10 and NEMA 4X-rated casing weighs 1.4 kg (3.1 lb) and runs from -40 °C to 60 °C, for perimeters, fence lines and total darkness.

Detection in Total Darkness
A thermal camera sees heat, not light, so it needs no illumination and is not affected by darkness, glare or low sun. The uncooled microbolometer covers the 8–14 µm spectral range with a sensitivity (NETD) below 20 mK, which keeps the false alarm rate low in low-contrast scenes. Thermal palettes help operators read the scene, and because thermal images do not allow identification, they suit sites where privacy matters.
25 mm Lens Coverage and Detection Range
The 25 mm athermalized F1.0 lens gives a 24° horizontal and 18.5° vertical field of view, with a near focus distance of 18.5 m (61 ft). Using Johnson's criteria, AXIS gives theoretical ranges of 735 m (2410 ft) to detect a person and 2100 m (6900 ft) to detect a vehicle, 184 m (603 ft) to recognize a person and 91 m (299 ft) to identify one. Weather affects real distances, so plan the scene with AXIS Site Designer. The AXIS Q1972-E is offered with 10, 19, 25 and 35 mm lenses, each in an 8.3 fps and a 30 fps version.
Built-In Analytics
AXIS Video Motion Detection, AXIS Motion Guard, AXIS Fence Guard, AXIS Loitering Guard, active tampering alarm and audio detection are included. AXIS Perimeter Defender, which detects and classifies humans and vehicles, is supported and sold separately, and the AXIS Camera Application Platform lets you add third-party analytics. The ARTPEC-8 chip includes a deep learning processing unit (DLPU).
Axis Edge Vault Cybersecurity
Axis Edge Vault is a hardware-based cybersecurity platform with TPM 2.0 (CC EAL4+, FIPS 140-2 Level 2), a secure element (CC EAL 6+), Axis device ID, secure keystore, signed video, secure boot and an encrypted filesystem. Signed firmware, brute force delay protection, OAuth 2.0, IEEE 802.1X, IEEE 802.1AE (MACsec), HTTPS/HSTS, TLS 1.2/1.3 and a host-based firewall protect it on the network. ONVIF Profile G, M, S and T and the VAPIX API support AXIS Camera Station and partner VMS software.
Built for Harsh Outdoor Sites
The compact aluminum and polycarbonate casing weighs 1.4 kg (3.1 lb) and is IP66/IP67, NEMA 4X and IK10 rated, operating from -40 °C to 60 °C (up to 74 °C per NEMA TS 2). It has a terminal block for one supervised alarm input and one output, a 3.5 mm mic/line input and speaker pairing for audio alarms through a network horn speaker or strobe siren. It runs on PoE Class 3 or 12–28 V DC and records to microSD cards or NAS.
Typical Applications
- Perimeters and fence lines
- Critical infrastructure, utility and industrial sites
- Storage yards, ports and open ground
- Building exteriors and areas with no lighting
- Sites where privacy rules out visual cameras
